Is Crestor The Same As Rosuvastatin?

default
Posted on Thu, 9 Feb 2017
Question: Hello, I am a 66 year old female diabetic. In reviewing my medicines it seems that I am taking 40 mg of Crestor as well as 40 mg of Rosuvastatin Calcium. Aren't these the same? Should I be taking 80 mg of this a day. I am experiencing muscle pain and blurry vision at times. I am concerned and think I should ask my primary why both. I read where Crestor also hinders diabetes treatment.

Your opinion.

Brief Answer:
Over dosage

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX,

Yes Crestor and Rosuvastatin are the same drug. No, Crestor doesn't hinder diabetes treatment. No, you should not be taking 80 mg..

The maximum dose is 40 mg and is only perscribed in case you didn't respond to the 20 mg dose. Unfortunately you have been taking an overdose of this medication.

The muscle pain is due to the over dose. But the blurred vision is not due to the overdose.

You need to visit an ophthalmologist to check your eyes as diabetes may commonly cause complications such as optic neuritis. optic neuritis is inflammation of the eye nerve. Optic neuritis can cause blurred vision.
Also you need to stop taking both Crestor and Rosuvastatin and check your blood cholesterol level.. If your blood cholesterol level is within normal range then you won't need to replace them.

I hope I answered your question. If you don't have any other clarifications then please close the discussion and rate the answer.
