Is Diflucan The Right Medicine For Vaginal Yeast Infection?

default
Posted on Sat, 14 May 2016
Question: I took a loading dose of Cipro when I noticed that my urine had a very foul odor. I only had 1000mg of the antibiotic and was going to call my urologist when I came back home from seeing my husband in Florida (we live in GA, but he is on a job in FL right now) We had sex the next night or maybe 2 nights later, and the following day I woke up to an extreme pain when I urinated, it felt like razor blades. I had a 31 mm kidney stone this past year and had a total of 7 procedures including a PCNL, from XXXXXXX -Sept 2015, and also had a PICC during that time, I had yeast infections practically the whole time from the high dose antibiotics I infused. I now get a yeast infection when on any antibiotics, but I only took 1000mg. Could it be a yeast infection from just that dose? The Physicians Assistant I work with ordered Diflucan for me, I took that yesterday and have 1 more if needed. This started Wednesday and it is now Saturday. I do have itching, no odor, and a small amount of discharge, but this is nothing like any other yeast infection I have had in the past. Should I take the other Diflucan? Could it be something else?

Brief Answer:
Continue with Diflucan as prescribed!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this vaginal yeast infection that you have reported. It is unlikely that the copra loading dose could have favored this infection. I will suggest that you continue with diflucan as prescribed because the symptoms of burning urine when it touches the vagina and the itches are pretty suggestive. This should resolve within 5-7days and should that fail, then we should seek further ways to address this. For now, let’s carry on with the treatment.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be. Above all, thanks for using our services.

Should I wait for the 72 hr mark before taking the last diflucan? Can you please recommend an OTC cream? Vagasil didn't work ( I use sterile q-tips for application)I also douched, burned horribly. I am the night nurse at an on-site clinic at a nuclear power plant being built, we have hydrocortisone cream which due to my desperation, I just used, but are limited as to OTC creams & meds. I noticed a scant amount of blood on the toilet tissue after I urinated, but I am not scratching, I've used warm and cold wash clothes for relief and rubbed. I also noticed that the itching seems to be mostly at the vaginal opening. I work 12 hr night shift & I don't want my patients (construction workers) to come into the clinic noticing that I'm moving like I have ants in my pants for a better phrase!
Thank you so much for your time
Sincerely

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Your symptoms are suggestive of vaginal yeast infection. The only issue is you seem to be running out of patience to allow them sufficient time to act. I will not recommend nay further medications beside cleansing the pubic region regularly at least twice daily with an antiseptic to hasten healing. If the itches are too severe, them get some Benadryl to control thatches whole healing take its course.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to follow up if need be. Until next, I wish you a speedy recovery and do keep me updated about your progress.
