Is ELISA Test Done After 92 Days Post Exposure Conclusive?
Question: hello doctor,
I had an exposure of insertive unprotected oral sex 3 months back with a lady. I took DNA PCR test on 52nd day from exposure where the results came back not detected. on 74th day I took Rapid tridot test and the results came back negative.on 82nd day I took Elisa test where the results came back negative. on 93rd day I took rapid tridot test where the results came back negative for HIV1 and 2.
Also on 92nd day I took the Elisa test for the opposite partner too where the results came back negative.
1. Do I have possibilities to get the HIV infection?
2. Do need to take any further test after 6 months from exposure?
Please confirm.

Brief Answer:
The possibility of getting HIV infection is nil and no further test needed.
Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX
Welcome to HCM.
First of all, You had unprotected oral sex and the chances of getting the HIV infection from oral sex are very less so you need not to worry much for that.
Second, Your HIV DNA PCR, Tridot and ELISA test results after 52, 74, 82 and 93 days post exposure are negative along with negative ELISA test result of your partner after 92 days post exposure then you need not to go for any further test after 6 months of exposure and you are completely free from HIV.
Thank You

Thanks you doctor for your reply.
Also I just want to confirm with you that shall I continue my sexual life with my wife as usual. Because, from the date of my exposure I did not had any sexual contact with my wife, thinking that I may infect her. Since you said there is no further test required after 6 months, I hope I am completely alright and just want to confirm you once again.
1. Could you please confirm is there any possibility to contract HIV from an HIV negative person?
2. Also I took RPR test for Syphilis on 90th day from exposure. Do I need to test any further for syphilis?
3. Do I have any possibility to contract any other VDs due to my last exposure?
If so could you please advise the respective tests for the same.
Sorry I may ask you blunder questions. But I am too much anxious due to my previous exposure and I never do that again.

Brief Answer:
There is no possibility of getting the HIV infection from negative person.
Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX
First of all, You can definitely continue your sexual life with your wife as usual as the possibility of getting the HIV infection in your case is very negligible or nil. The test to be taken at 6 months is just routine if you want to go for it.
Second, there is no possibility of getting the HIV infection from an HIV negative person. As your RPR test for syphilis on 90th day from exposure is negative than there is no need to test any further for syphilis.
Third, In your case as per the history I don't think you have any possibility of getting any other VDs because of your last exposure. So don't be too anxious, just be relaxed and move ahead in life with your wife happily.
Thank You

Thanks doctor for your reply where I am bit relaxed now, since i received the clarification from an expert.
From your last reply i clarified that i do not have any chance to get HIV infection, since myself and the opposite partner, both were tested negative at 3 months.
1. Out of my curiosity I would like to know that, in your experience did you see any one who is tested negative in 90 days and again positive in 6 months?
2. I red in online sites that in rare possibilities people may generate their antibodies after 3 months. In such cases, who will fall under these categories(whether do they have any disease or any special considerations)?
3. Whether the alcohol consumption a day before the elisa/rapid tridot test will affect the test results? (since I consumed alcohol a day before my last test on 92nd day)
Thanks in advance.

First of all, I am very happy to hear that you are somewhat relaxed now. I have not seen any patient who is negative at 3 months and again positive at 6 months.
Second, In some cases patients may develop their antibodies after 3 months but the possibility of this is very negligible or nil in your case as both you and your partner were tested negative at 3 months.
Third, the alcohol consumption has nothing to do with the result of ELISA or rapid tri-dot test so don't worry much. Be relaxed and move ahead in life.
