Brief Answer:
go for HIV PCR

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Elisa can be negative till 6 months even if the infection is there. Of you want to be sure then go for HIV PCR test for p24 antigenwhich detects the HIV virus and not the antibody as detected The ELISA test.Regards Dr Manisha Jain.

But given my situation where everything was safe and protected do i need to worry? I read in so many articles that 6-8 weeks 95% people will get detected and official window is 3 months. I will be close to 3 months now. Should i do another elisa?

Brief Answer:
Elisa after 4 months.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again. If there was protected sex then no need to worry for HIV infection. But Elisa can be false negetive up to 6 months. Bit I think there is no risk to you as the intercouse was protected.of you want to repeat the test then please do it after 4 months from now other wise go for HIV PCR test.

Ok. That is a big releif. One last question. Does HIV shows symptoms even if antibodies are not generated and elisa is negative?

Brief Answer:
Can show symptoms

Yes it can show symptoms in the form of a simple sore throat or mild fever and even running nose and weakness.
But not always so nothing conclusive can be commented about it.

It looks like i have all the symptoms. What should i dodoctor? M paranoid and full of anxiety. I went today and did early detection screening which includes HIV duo, P24 antigen HIV 1 and 2 rna pcr. Was this right test? Have u heard of people testing positive after testing negative in 6 weeks. Reports will come back in 3 days so these 3 days would be long as hell for me.

Brief Answer:
Right test done

Detailed Answer:
Yes dear these are the right tests and I haven't seen any positive case after these tests were negative. Quite confirmatory tests so nothing to worry if they come out negative.
Youe anxiety is genuine but the wait period is inevitable till test results.

Brief Answer:
Only ELISA is not reliable

Detailed Answer:
If ELISA is negative at 6 weeks then it can turn positive after few weeka.
But in case P24 antigen and viral RNA is negative too along with ELISA then I haven't seen any positives after 3 months.
