Brief Answer:
Early Diabetes

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for contacting HCM with your health care concerns

Yu are a healthy 72 year old female and recently on blood work your blood sugar was elevated to 148. This is technically early diabetes and with your body weight being a little high this is the probable cause of your elevated blood sugar.

I recommend going on a good calorie diet and increasing exercise with the goal of reducing your weight by at least 10 to 15 lbs. That does not sound like much but it will greatly change your metabolism

I also recommend that you have additional blood work including Lipid panel and HbA1C. The HbA1C is a test that measures your blood sugars for the past 3 months. This gives us a better idea how bad in the line of Glycemic control you are. If it is greater than 6.5 then that helps diagnose diabetes.

There are several medications that can be started like Metformin but I would first like to see you loss the weight instead of using a pill. Losing weight is the best treatment for Diabetes

I hope I answered your question.
