Posted on Thu, 15 Dec 2016
Question: I had a vaginal sexual encounter i put a condom but in the middle of the relation the condom goes off, i realized after inserting my penis 3 time (less than a minute, I put another condom and continue.
I asked a doctor about the risk of getting HIV if the girl has been infected, he mentioned it was a low risk and dont to worry about.... is this true?
Also I have circumsicion, it is true this decrease my risk?
I read about symptoms and it seems around 70 percent people has ARS symptoms, I didnt have fever, rash or sorethroat, if symptoms happen can sorethroat alone can appear after 7 weeks?

Brief Answer:
Very low risk

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for using HCM to post your question.
I read it carefully and I understand your concern.

It is true that the risk of getting infected from HIV with this encounter its very low. The risk when having a traumatic sexual intercourse (for example when there is no good lubrification like in anal that may have some bleeding) its 0.1%-1%. In your case it doesn't seem to have been any of this.

As a doctor though, despite the very low risk, I must tell you that the best way to know for sure its to do the tests. Then you deicde yourself knowing the risk.

The sore throat that its from HIV infection comes after 1-3 weeks, but also you must keep in mind that sore throat comes from other causes most probably, so you cannot determine HIV infection just from a sore throat.

Hope this is helpful.
