Is HIV Test Done After After 10 Weeks Conclusive?
Here are the test results that came back from Kaiser:
HIV 1+2 AB+HIV1P24 AG, CLA Nonreactive Nonreactive
My questions are :
The HIV tests administered and used by Kaiser Permanente are they 4th generation tests?
Secondly how accurate are the results after 2 days shy of 10 weeks? I just want to make sure the nonreactive result is a valid confirmation I do not have HIV
Also can I have an internal medicine possibly answer this question?
Thank you
Repeat the test after 12 weeks.
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query at the HCM.
I understand your concern and situation.
Firstly I would suggest you not to worry as your test results are negative. Yes the tests which detect both p24 and antibodies are 4 th generation ELISA test. Now I see that you have taken the test at 10 weeks and it is non reactive. But as per international norms 4 th generation ELISA test is considered to be conclusive after 12 weeks. So I would suggest you to get your test repeated after 12 weeks. It is most likely that it will be negative but the protocol must be followed. But would like to emphasize that the test done around10 weeks are also highly about 95% sensitive. It is most likely that it will be negative but the protocol must be followed. So get a repeat test at 12 weeks.
Hope I answered your query
