Is HbA1c Level Of 6.4% A Cause For Concern?
Question: I've been told by Dr I am prediabetic. My A1c is 6.8 and I take Metformin. What is a safe A1c?
Brief Answer:
About HbA1c level;
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
If HbA1c level is over 6.4%, then it is considered Diabetes.
A safe HbA1c depends on many factors.
In most of the cases under 6.5 % is considered safe, but in other cases (in elderly patients with cardiac pathologies, where hypoglycemia is a great risk) HbA1c is preferred under 7%, because trying to keep it within the strict normal ranges, hypoglycemia may occur.
Hope the information will help. Feel free to ask further.
