Is Lorazepam Advisable While Suffering From Autoimmune Hepatitis?

Consultation
Detailed Answer:
Hello, and thanks for your question.
Lorazepam is a benzodiazepine medication used for treatment of anxiety. It is a short-acting medication that is metabolized through the liver. In someone with autoimmune hepatitis, the liver's function is already compromised, which can lead to a dangerous buildup of benzodiazepine metabolites in the system. I would therefore not take lorazepam. Instead, I would take another medication that is highly effective for anxiety: an antidepressant such as Escitalopram or Sertraline. This is a reasonable alternative.
