Is MRSA Contagious?
hi anf welcome
Detailed Answer:
MRSA is meticlin resistant staphyloccocus aureus and this is one type of bacteria which is causing several infections especially in hospitals and patients who are seriously ill. Main problem is that it is resistant to standard antibiotics so some stronger should be used to treat it. Mrsa is contagious but in most people it doesn't cause infection, just contamination and it means that it is present on skin or inside nose but it doesn't cause infection or symptoms m such people are carriers and they can transmit pathogen to patients who have open wounds, catheters, lung diseases etc. Even up to 30% of people are carriers so it is important to wash hands when in contact with patients in hospital. Mostly it can cause wound infections, pneumonia, sepsis or urinary infections. once it is cured, recurrence is possible but unusual.
