Metothrexate in crohns disease isnt standard therapy but recently this is proved to be good alternative to azatiophrin and corticosteroids in agressive types of crohns especially in people who dont tolerate steroids or in whom steroid dont bring improvement. Methotrexat has certain side effects and this is powerful and citotoxic drug but of course it has place in crohn treatment and it can delay necessity of surgical procedure.wish you good health.feel free to ask.regards
