Brief Answer:
less harmful then tobacco chewing or smoking, useful for deaddiction

Detailed Answer:
Hello Mr. XXXXXXX

Thanks for writing to us.

Nicotex is used for deaddiction of smoking or tobacco chewing. In long run tobacco either by chewing or smoking can cause many health hazards including cancer. So better to stop the same. Tobacco contains lots of dangerous chemicals which act badly on our body cells. Nicotine is one of them.
However nicotine is the substance responsible for craving and dependence of the smoking or tobacco. When person stops tobacco, he feels withdrawal features like irritability, anxiety, headache, restlessness, uneasiness, lack of concentration, craving for tobacco etc. To prevent/treat such withdrawal symptoms nicotine gums are used.

Gradually this nicotine gum also should be stopped as it is also addictive being nicotine. However by taking the same person is not exposed to other dangerous chemicals of tobacco except nicotine.

Nicotex gum can cause oral irritation, tingling sensation in mouth, nausea, hiccups, heartburn. In long run say after years of intake it can cause harm like tobacco itself but not with the same severity and potency.

If nicotex gums are taken under medical supervision in prescribed manner it is useful.

For your information I want to mention other approach for deaddcition also.
Apart from nicotine patches and gums(which is just replacement therapy) there are medicines which can help to to stop smoking. If your motivation is good it is very safe ,easy and successful way to stop smoking.

Bopropion is the choice of medicine. Specifically SR (bupron SR) preparation is used in deaddiction. It acts via norepinephrine and doapmine pathway and reduce craving of smoking. Along with bupropion, propranolol and low dose benzodiazepine (like lorazepam, clonazepam or etizolam) are used to reduce and stop withdrawal features.
Dose and duration of treatment depend on duration, quantity and frequency of smoking.
The best doctor to consult for the same is psychiatrist as by degree he/she is a deaddiction specialist also.

Like all alopathic medicines bupropion has some side effects like gastric discomfort, insomnia and anxiety features but most of the patients tolerate well.
Bnezodiazepine can cause dependence if used without doctor's guidance. But for stopping smoking they are used in very low dose and for short duration.

Hope I have answered your query, I will be happy to help further.

Regards,
Dr.Chintan Solanki.
