Is Normet Suspension & Zinc Dry Powder For Suspension Safe For A Three Month Old Baby? Green Stools, Loose Motion
Thanks for posting your query.
Normet suspension has a combination of antibiotics ofloxacin and ornidazole and is usually prescribed for infectious bacterial diarrhoea in children .
Like any antibiotics it has it's sideffects on the gastrointestinal system , liver, tendons and bones etc . It can cause allergic reaction in some.
It's safety and efficacy have not been studied in infants less than one year hence should be best avoided in them.
Zinc therapy for diarrhoea is a safe and effective option and is recommended in all diarrhoeas .
Your daughters report is suggestive of infective diarrhoea for which antibiotic treatment might be required . If you are worried about safety ask your doctor for an alternative antibiotic like Cefixime or colistin.
If you have already started the Normet , and experiencing no visible sideffects you may continue the course as per your doctors advise .
Hope I have answered your query.
Wishing your daughter a speedy recovery.
