Is Phentermine An Effective Appetite Suppressant?

default
Posted on Wed, 25 Jan 2017
Question: I am ADD and have been prescribed Ritalin 10 mg two to three times a day for over five years. I am trying to lose weight and I am on diet program and wanted to take phentermine 37.5 mg to suppress my appetite as Ritalin does not that much for me. Was not sure if I can take them together or should just take phentermine on days that I do not take Ritalin to concentrate. ...... When I have taken phentermine in the past it will suppress my appetite but does not give me a lot of energy......

Detailed Answer:
Hello, and thanks for your question.

Phentermine can be used short term as an appetite suppressant, but evidence shows it is not good long term for weight loss. Further, it would be unsafe to combine this with Ritalin, as they are both stimulants and when used together can cause high blood pressure, palpitations, and increase risk of stroke.

I would stick with the basics in terms of weight loss, and the only proven way of sustained weight loss: decrease and log calorie intake, and increase aerobic exercise.

Regards
