Is Ragi Advisable To Eat Everyday While Planning For Pregnancy?
My Wife is 27 years old and she is a Diabetic from past 1and half year. She was not taking any medication and tried to control it by diet.
Now we are planning for a kid and approached a Gynecologist. She advised to take Glucophage 500 mg (1-0-1) daily. (Attached her report).
Problem:
1) We eat Ragi (Ragi Ball, Ragi malt) everyday. Is it advicaible to take Ragi ? As it's GI Index is high.
2) What all the food she can have for breakfast, lunch and dinner? (we are vegetarians)
3) Please advice us - the what all the precautions we need to take as we are planning for a baby.
I may suggest to avoid ragi daily. Can take it occasionally.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for your question.
Noted your concern.
After going through your wife's reports, she is diabetic & started on appropriate medicines.
Answers to your question one by one -
1) Ragi has high glycemic index. I may suggest to avoid it as far as possible.
2) I may suggest following meal timings in such a cases
Breakfast in between 7.30 to 9.00am.
Mid morning snack around 12am.
Lunch in between 12.30 to 2.00pm.
Evening snacks in between 4.30 to 6.00pm.
Dinner in between 7.30 to 9pm.
At Bed time 1/2 cup milk or oats.
In breakfast one can have poha, upma, dosa, idalis, sprouts, oats, brown bread, salads.
Lunch & Dinner : should contain green leafy vegetables, pulses, green salads with sprouts, bread made up of wheat, bajara, jawar.
Rice : small amount of rice (brown rice or basamati) in lunch, better to avoid rice in night.
Fruits :
- All citrus fruits can be taken.
- Apple, papaya, pineapple can be taken daily.
- Fruits to be avoided are custard apple, XXXXXXX bananas, ciku. Can have these fruits occasionally for taste only.
Sprouts & Green salad :
Can be taken without much limitations.
Protein intake -
- Milk : Preferably cow milk without cream.
