Is Seropram Effective In Treating OCD Symptoms?

default
Posted on Sat, 27 Dec 2014
Question: I have some OCD symptoms due to Solian (amisulpride) effects on 5HT7 and 5HT2b receptors and some dopaminergic activity, but until now Solian has not been changed. I am also on Lexapro 40 mg, Klonopin 2 mg and Keppra 1500 mg. I have been for more or least two months on these dosages and i have an improvement of 80 % in my symptoms, but i have no 100 % improvement. My psychiatrist says that maybe i can have a better reaction with seropram, and i know that escitalopram and seropram are close, but at the same time still different. My psychiatrist says that seropram can have a more anxiolytic effect than escitalopram and maybe help for a full improvement. I would like to know if there are good experiences with seropram for OCD, since it seems difficult to reach a higher dosage of Lexapro. I am a poor metabolizer for cyp2c19 a mild for cyp2d6.
Thanks beforehand

Brief Answer:
Seropram is not a good option for you,Clomipramine is good one

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for writing to us back.

It is really good that you have 80% improvement.

Here in your case you need more 20% improvement which can't be achieved with lexapro due to metabolism problem. Seropram is a mother drug of lexapro and it is also metabolized by cyp2c19. So again you should not be given recommended dose for OCD due to possibility of side effects. In my opinion it will not be helpful in your case, though it is off label used for OCD effectively in many cases.

I think Anafranil (Clomipramine) can be added to complete the improvement as it is metabolized by glucuronide and no need to worry about CYP metabolism. And it is FDA approved drug for OCD and generally first add on drug to SSRI in OCD.

Hope I have answered your query, I will be happy to help further.
