Is Trental Intake Safe To Remove Calcification In Penis?

Question: Hi doctor, i have a disease called peyronie's . When i had a penile doppler scan of my penis,the results said peyronie's fibrosis with calcification found. Currently i am taking pentoxyfylline 400mg(Trental) to remove the calcification in my penis. Does it have any serious adverse effect or can i continue taking the tablet without prescription. I heard that a drug called Xiaflex has been introduced to treat peyronie's disease.Is it available in India?

Detailed Answer: Hello Thanks for your query,based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you have Peyronies Disease I shall be happy if you can post me few more details and upload report of your penile Doppler scan to help me in making comments on your problem 1) What is the status of Erection whether you are getting good hard erection ? 2) Do you have curvature of penis on erection? and if yes then to how many degrees? 3) Are you married ? 4) Have you tried sexual intercourse with female partner? If yes then did you have any problem in penetration of vagina? You have been taking medication Trental .It is a vasoactive drug that improves blood flow to the organ but it has no role to play in dissolving the calcified plaques and have many side effects . Truly speaking there are no drugs proven to be effective in removing or dissolving calcified Plaques in penis . Peyronies disease is known to have spontaneous resolution within 2 years .If the curvature of penis is minimal better you wait for 2 years and expect it to get resolved . Normally surgical treatment is advised if the curvature is more than 30 degree and hinders the penetration of vagina during intercourse. Xiaflex is drug recently introduced for treatment of Peyronies disease and is not available in India. 1) What is the status of Erection whether you are getting good hard erection ? my erection is normal.It is hard at the beginning and spongy at the place of plaque and further at the end. i believe the plaque is not allowing the blood to reach the tip of my penis. The erection length is around 4.5 inches. It does not sustain for too long. 2) Do you have curvature of penis on erection? and if yes then to how many degrees? Yes i have curvature on erection. It is around 30 degrees. 3) Are you married ? No 4) Have you tried sexual intercourse with female partner? If yes then did you have any problem in penetration of vagina? No i haven't tried any sexual intercourse with any female partner. I am a frequently masturbate though. i have this problem since 3.5 years. Pain during erection only. No pain or blood seen while urinating. I saw a research article in pubmed which stated that trental removed only the calcification on the plaque and did not affect the plaque and also carnitine had positive effect on peyronie's disease. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC0000/ Thus i thought i will use trental to remove the calcification and then later carnitine to resolve the plaque and improve erection. Can using magnesium oil or verapamil applied topically remove the calcification on the plaque. Also i am looking forward for some hypnotherapy to heal the peyronie's disease by using my own body's natural healing mechanism. i am looking forward to continue this treatment for 2 years . if nothing works then surgery would be my last decision. What are the complications of surgical treatment? Please kindly advice on my decision. Please let me know if i can continue using trental and then later carnitine. Sorry currently i don't have the penile doppler reports with me.

Brief Answer: Do not decide ode of treatment yourself. Detailed Answer: Hello Thanks for feedback. Looking at the symptoms and findings you have narrated I would suggest you to consult qualified Urologist experienced in this field and follow his guide lines regarding the treatment options.There is no single model of treatment for Peyronies disease and it differs from patient to patient on the way it presents clinically. Since the basic cause of this disease is still not known all the drugs that you have mentioned are under trial and experiment stage and non of them have been proved 100% effective to dissolve the calcified plaques. Surgery is last option and is advised only if the calcified plaques remain stable for more than 6 months after waiting for 2 years and hinders penetration of vagina during sexual intercourse and degree of curvature is more than 30 degree. Hello Doctor, Thanks for your advice. I just want to confirm if the tablet (Trental 400 mg ) does not cause any serious long term side effects.Currently i am taking it after the food. i am taking 2 tablets every day. Regards XXXX
