Brief Answer:
Yes, it is considered to be safe to take Xanax.

Detailed Answer:
Hello Dear,

Sorry to hear about the tragedy in your family. I can understand your situation.

You have mentioned that you had a glass of wine in the noon.

Tablet Xanax is safe to take for sleep but it is always advised to take this medication after consulting your doctor..

Both wine and Xanax have same action on brain. So there is no risk of adverse drug-interaction.

Do not consume wine or any form of alcohol along with or after taking Xanax.

Hope this helps you.

Thank you for your prompt reply. This is not typical behavior for me. I have a fortunate life in business and family but I don't want to be awake at all. My wife is also a Dr. in psychology and she is very concerned. I will be going to speak with a therapist she referred for me on Friday and I hope that will be beneficial. I have missed the past 3 days of work and that has added to my anxiety as I have 42 direct reports. Thanks again.

Brief Answer:
This might be due to acute stress.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing a follow-up query.

I can understand your behavior and your mental state.
Death in a family is a huge stressor. And when the person is in stress and state of anxiety, he tries to find the ways to cope up with it.

I suppose you turned up to wine and xanax to keep your anxiety levels under control.
Indeed there is no harm in taking a tablet of xanax (prescription drug).

You can practice relaxation exercises like deep breathing and meditation and biofeedback therapy under your wife's guidance as she is a psychologist. This will definitely help you.

You must also visit your therapist as suggested by your wife. This will surely help you great deal.

I would be glad to answer your further queries too.

Wish you good health.
Take care.
Thanks.
