Is A WBC Level Of 131.31 Indicative Of Leukaemia?

default
Posted on Wed, 21 Sep 2016
Question: Hello.
As a result of a blood test in China, my white blood cell count (WBC) is 131.31 and 'LYMPH#' is 94.1.
The Specialist Chinese doctor told me that the second reading confirms chronic lymphocytic leukaemia.
Immediately after my initial blood test, a general doctor prescribed an antibiotic, which I took the full course of from 16-18 August, which relieved the infection. When I asked if the high white cell count could be the aftermath of the infection , the specialist said no, and that it was leukaemia causing it.
Could you comment on this?
Thanks

Brief Answer:
It is chronic lymphocytic leukemia most likely.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, dear
I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern.

Your total WBC count is very high. It is 1,30,000 & 95% are lymphocytes.

So it suggest chronic lymphoproliferative disease. Most likely it is chronic lymphocytic leukemia.

In infection wbc count increase slightly and its neutrophils. So it is not infection. It is chronic lymphocytic leukemia.

Bone marrow has not much role chronic leukemia.
You should go for immunophenotyping study like flow cytometry for exact typing of leukemia.

Then you should take treatment accordingly.

In early stage of chronic lymphocytic leukemia no treatment is required. Just wait and watch approach should be followed. In later stage chemotherapy should be used.

Don't worry much about chronic leukemia. It is chronic disease and has very good prognosis. Survival rate is very high. So don't panic. Just be relaxed.

Hope I have answered your question. If you have any doubts then feel free to ask me. I will be happy to answer. Thanks for using health care magic. Wish you very good health.

It is chronic leukemia so count will remains high. with chemotherapy it can be reduced but it has its own side effects and in early stage it is not preferred. Still consult your hematologist once and plan accordingly.
