Is A Bilirubin Level Of 22.2 A Cause For Concern?

I am witting again, I got some prescription from you about my sister's 16 Days old Daughter. As per your suggestion she has been readmitted to hospital due to high bilirubin level of 22.2. She was under photo therapy treatment for 4 Days in Hospital and released at a level of 10.8. Is there any chance of re attack? She still looks a bit yellowish and we are exposing her to sunlight everyday, would also like to mention that her poo is still black /dark green in color as the early days. Is it normal? She doesn't have fever and under exclusive breast feeding.
Continue exclusively breast feeding the baby. Things are fine.

Thanks for writing back.
It is good to hear that your sister's daughter is doing well after discharge. The present bilirubin level is acceptable. Rebound is unlikely provided that hydration is adequate. Please insist your sister to keep the child on exclusive breast feeding and to monitor the urine output. If the child passes urine more than 6-8 times in 24 hours breast feed can be considered to be adequate. Exposure to morning sunlight can be given. The colour of stool is not a cause for concern. Dark green poo is acceptable and occurs due to rapid transit through large intestines where it does not get adequate time for the bile pigments to get converted to yellow colour of the stool. It is acceptable.
Let me know if I could be of further assistance.
