Brief Answer:
Glucose not dangerously high

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX thank you for using Healthcare Magic. A glucose of 131 is not dangerously high. If this is a fasting measurement, it does diagnose diabetes (diabetes is diagnosed at a fasting glucose of over 126).

Levels also depend on how soon after a meal you had the glucose measured. After eating, the glucose will typically go up for a short time and then come down to baseline. If you were not fasting for this test, this might be considered within normal limits.

If the glucose is persistently at this level or higher, this is considered diabetes, which over time can be dangerous as it can cause damage to the kidneys, blood vessels, heart, eyes etc. However, it is not considered acutely dangerous.

If you are concerned about diabetes, you can talk to your doctor about repeating the test and be sure you are fasting 8 to 12 hours, have a glucose tolerance test, or have a test called HgbA1c performed. This test gives an estimate of what the glucose levels have been over the past few months.

Hope this answers your query. If you have further questions, I would be happy to answer them.
