Is A Peeling Skin After Surgery Sign Of Infection?
Question: my adult son had an extensive robotic surgery on the kidney & ureter--3 1/2 hrs. & a 4 day in hospital. he's had a low grade fever & a hgb. of 7.5, droppng from 14 pre-op. he's 2 1/2 wks. p.op.; a week ago his hands are peeling skin, "like a snake". his urologist didn't seem concerned. also, is this contagious? especially hearing about post hospital infections. thanks.
Brief Answer:
not infectious but may be some other trouble
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to healthcare Magic!
The skin exfoliation is known to occur in the recovery periods from high impact diseases and surgical stress. The skin problem of this type is transient say a week or two and is not infectious.
The another trouble is his falling levels of hemoglobin. He may be harboring some infection at surgical site, or may be his other kidney is also getting affected.
There may be a separate problem in the gut that is causing blood loss in stools.
Please get his ultrasound of abdomen, renal function test, complete blood counts to get more in site in to the problem.
I hope the advise would be informative and useful for you.
