Is Alcohol Advisable For A GERD Patient?

Question: Hey dr,
Last night I went out clubbing with the squad and I had quite a bit to drink probably the most I have ever had it was mainly ciders and candian club beer. Now I do suffer from gerd but it's really started to tone down after my anxiety stress problems have gone away and I haven't had to have nexium for almost two months, now I only just have antacids like Gaviscon here and there. Anyways I degress I woke up with a really bad stomach ache and I could feel a little vomit come up. The pain has gone on for pretty much the whole day all though it has definitely improved a little towards nignt time. I have mainly being drinking water and eating healthy throughout the day which helped but what I want to know is this a normal thing to happen with heavy drinking from a night out or is it due to my gerd problems? I mean I usually drink probably once a week sometimes not at all but only maybe 1-2 ciders XXXXXXX but this time it was a lot more than that maybe 7 or 8 but I did have a lot of water throughout the night too. Is it something I should keep an eye on to see if the pain gets worse and should I cut out the drinking for this week?
Kind Regards,
XXXX

Brief Answer:
Alcohol is a risk factor
Detailed Answer:
Hi there,
Thanks for posting your query in HCM.
I am Dr.Barani and I am pleased to assist you.
Alcohol is a risk factor for GERD.
Also alcohol irritates the inner lining of the stomach causing gastritis.
Alcohol also can cause pancreatitis which causes upper abdominal pain.
So avoid alcohol till you get complete relief.
Take Nexium for relief.
If pain is worsening/ continuous, get medical attention to rule out pancreatitis
I hope that answers your query.
Let me know if you have any more questions.
