Is An AFI Reading Of 10 During Pregnancy Harmful For The Baby?
I am 34 weeks pregnant currently, at 32 weeks i went for an ultrasound and the AFI level was 10. Doctor said it was low and suggested to take some powder, i couldn't take it wasn't tasting good. Is 10 very low? will it cause any harm to the baby?
And yesterday i had thick clear white chunks of discharge when i went to the washroom. I was so scared thinking it as mucus plug.
Is that mucus plug?
If yes will i be going to labor soon?
Is it fine if the baby is born now?
or can i take any precautions?
Baby will be fine
Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX
Thanks for your query.
I have read you query and I understand your concerns about your baby.
Following is my reply:
1) white discharge is common in this tie of pregnancy and this is not mucus plug. This is just excessive mucus secretion seen around this time of pregnancy.
2) I dont think there is any chance of going into early ( preterm) labor.
3) Baby would be of good weight by now and there will be no problem to baby even if you go into preterm labor and deliver baby.
4) You need to eat proteins like egg and sprouts to improve fluid. Drink more water / juice/ tender coconut/ butter milk etc.. Keep yourself well hydrated which will help in improving AFI though you dont take medicines.
5) No additional precautions are needed.
I hope I answered you query and addressed your concerns.
Let me know if you wish to ask any further questions. I will be glad to help you.
Regards,
Dr. Soumya
