Is Angioplasty Advisable For A Patient With Chronic Kidney Disease?

Question: My 67 year old father just had his second heart attack in less than a year. He had a quadruple bypass 14 years ago and a few stents a little over a year ago. Now his kidneys aren't doing good and we've been told that they can't do a heart XXXXXXX unless his kidney function gets better.... we were also informed that he only has 1 main artery open. What are his options??

Hi,
Welcome.
This is Dr Sameer, cardiologist.
This type of scenario your father is having is considered serious. We have limited treatment option for such patients.
As he had undergone a by pass earlier he has option of getting redo bypass done but that is also very risky especially when his kidney are not well.
Angioplasty can be done in deranged kidney function but he may require dialysis post angioplasty.
Final mode of treatment is keeping on medical treatment at present & wait for the kidney function to get settled & than do a angioplasty.
I wish him a healthy life & quick recovery.
Thanks & take care
