Is Ashwangandha Safe To Take With Thyronorm?

Question: Hi,
My wife is 31 year old and breast feeding our 13 months child. She is currently having hypothyroidism and on medication. She is having Thyronorm 50 mcg. Along with that, she is taking calcium supplement from nutrilite. She is now planning to take himalaya's ashwagandha capsules. Is it safe to take ashwangha with thyronorm 50 mcg?
Thanks
Brief Answer:
it is not really indicated.
Detailed Answer:
Dear sir, Hi! ashwagandha capsules are not really indicated in pregnancy and breast feeding. so if possible avoid it till your wife is feeding your baby. as far as thyroxine is concerned, it is known to interact with ashwagandha. so once you start ashwagandha, recheck your wife's thyroid balance after 6 weeks and let us know. we may need to reduce the dose of thyroxine. regards!

Hi,
Thanks for your response,
Does Ashwagandha consumption result in any chemical secretion in breast milk? Because my wife use to take other herbal product-shatavari while consuming thyronorm. I thought as she was fine with shatavari, it will be OK to take Ashwagandha. Please let me know your opinion.
Thanks
Brief Answer:
safety in pregnancy and breast feeding not known.
Detailed Answer:
Dear sir, hi! as far as these herbal products are concerned, their safety is not established in pregnancy and breastfeeding. they do interact with thyroid functioning. all drugs are secreted in breast milk to variable extent. so it is advised to avoid all possible drugs during lactation. Regards!
