Question: Since Tuesday I have been getting hypos twice a night even though I have had a supper snack at night of almonds & sometimes w/- cranberries. Tonight, about 15 min after eating my evening meal, I had an attack, which was eased as soon as I had some yoghurt. My friend measured my blood sugar which was 6.3. A) Does that mean I have diabetes and B should I consult my doctor?

Brief Answer:
Glucoses

Detailed Answer:
6.3 is not a low blood glucose level. Anything below 70 is considered low and requires detailed evaluation especially if you are not in any diabetes medication. The reason is that there are certain types of diabetes medications which can cause low sugar episodes. But if low sugars are occurring in the absence of any diabetes pills/ insulin then it is quite abnormal and this merits a comprehensive assessment as to why this is happening. Couple examples of potential causes are thyroid or adrenal problems. Secondly,in order to know if you have diabetes I suggest you undergo a test called HbA1c. This does not require any fasting and can be done at any time of the day. There are two other ways to determine if you have diabetes or not but this one is convenient
