Is Blood Pressure Of 110/56 A Cause For Concern?
Question: I Have a brother in law on life support in the E.R right now and all vitals are good except his B.P. He's reading 110/56. Resp are 21 and Ps02 are 100%. I'm worried about his B.P. He was admitted with acute resp failure/ septic shock. Cultures were taken, awaiting to come back, CXR revealed pneumonia. He is being tested for TB and is isolation as precautionary measures. Do you think his B.P is something to worry about? The lowest was 96/46 . He has an NG TUBE AND being fed in that manner plus P.O meds. He was DX 30 yrs ago with HIV. lives in a nursing home for past 10 yrs. I would appreciate it if you could help me out. Thank you very much. XXXX XXXXXXX
Dear Dr. Rynne. He was also admitted with a temp of 103 degree fever. Lethargic and agitated.
They also tried the pap but was not working & that is why he's on life-support. PAP was reading 55%.

Brief Answer:
His BP is well managed!
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
His BP is perfect and no doctor would be bothered by that. Please, it is being well managed and no doctor would express further concerns about that unless something else comes up.
With the temperature and agitation, most likely an infection and the cultures would certainly help us identify the germ and treat accordingly.
I hope this addresses your worry. Keep me posted!
