Is Blood Pressure Of 113/68 And Pulse Rate Of 58 Normal?

Question: Some time ago I measured my blood pressure. It was in the ideal range 113/68 with pulse 58. What worried me is the fact that i saw the arrhythmia sign on the meter. I assumed that maybe something was not proper on my meter like a twisted hose or something (by the way I am sure I did not move) so I measured my blood pressure 10 more times in the next 30 minutes. All the measurements were in the ideal range with high pressure between 109 and 117 and low pressure between 68 and 74 and pulse 58-62 with No arrhythmia. Do you see anything I should worry about?

Thanks for your time!

I would explain as follows:

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

Regarding your concern, I would explain that the blood pressure monitor is not the best tool to monitor your heart rhythm and investigate for cardiac arrhythmia.

Its heart rate records are based on the pulse wave in that certain artery, but sometimes it does not register all the heart beats (which may have a low pulse wave).

Your blood pressure values are within the normal ranges.

From the other hand, as long as you don't have any symptoms of cardiac arrhythmia like palpitations, shortness of breath, there is nothing to worry about!

Anyway, if you have experienced any of these symptoms, I would recommend performing further tests to exclude a cardiac arrhythmia:

- a cardiac ultrasound
- an ambulatory 24-48 hours ECG monitoring to examine your heart rhythm trends for a prolonged time
- a complete blood count for anemia
- blood electrolytes for possible electrolyte imbalance
- thyroid hormone levels for thyroid dysfunction.

But, for the moment, I don't see anything concerning considering your symptoms.

Hope to have been helpful!

If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask me again!

Wishing good health,

Dr. Iliri
