Brief Answer:
tablets can work
Detailed Answer:
Hi
I am Dr Mittal
I have read your query
Frankly the blood transfusion depends on the symptoms.
If he is otherwise ok, he can be given medicines.
I personally prefer to do that.
But he must be able to take it relaxed and cool for at least a month
If he has to keep rushing, blood transfusion is the quick fix mechanism
If he can relax and rest (mild activity permitted), he can try to go for a course of medicines. And repeat hemoglobin in a month.
Blood transfusion can be done even then.
Of course he will have to take Vitamin B and folate also
Best of luck
