Is Buzzing In Ears While Both Ears Being Syringed A Symptom Of Tinnitus?

default
Posted on Sat, 16 Apr 2016
Question: I have had both ears syringed two days ago and since then have noticed buzziness in my ears but no pain or loss of hearing as now syringed that is OK , could the buzzing always have been there and I just have have not noticed it , as only hear it when quiet but is uncomfortable , someone told me it could be tinnitus , is that possible and if so can I treat it as my hearing since syringing is OK just the buzzing. One thing I have noticed if I pull out me ear lobes the hearing gets louder and when I let go and they go back in position the hearing dulls a bit is that noreal or could my ear drums be a little narrow.

Brief Answer:
Mild tinnitus.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. It is normal for the delicate skin lining the external ear canal and ear drum to be inflamed for 2-3 days after cleaning/ syringing.

2. Get the ears re-examined for any signs of inflammation, infection or residual wax. These are common causes for mild tinnitus.

3. A hearing test (PTA or Pure Tone Audiometry) will help confirm if your hearing is normal. If this is not normal, the and the tinnitus is mild, it may have been unnoticed previously. Ear pressures (Tympanometry) should also be done.

4. The fact that pulling the ear lobes makes a difference points to a local cause rather than the inner ear cause.

5. Upload the test results and the ear examination notes to discuss treatment options.

I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.

Regards.

Thank you , it feels a little muffle and dense in my ears / hearing at moment which is why I mentioned the ear lobes extended making the hearing more crystal if that is the right way of explaining it. Hope there is nothing more serious as the buzzing is worrying me a bit. In your opinion is there anything to worry about long term for me and my hearing with reference to hearing aids possibly to stop / combat the buzzing. I do have the TV louder than usual and do shout when I talk I am told but the hearing side does not really concern me as much as the buzzing.

Just wondered if you received my reply as my device is playing up a little.
