Is Cold Contagious?

default
Posted on Wed, 30 Mar 2016
Question: We had a cold starting two weeks and a half weeks ago with my 14month old grandchild. My daughter took him to the dr no meds prescribed. I caught it two weeks ago sore throat, stuffy nose, sneezing then progressed to our chests. Mom caught it, dad caught it then last week grandpa. My husband and I are still very congested and coughing up yellow mucus. Basel discharge is clear on all of us. Baby still has congestion and slight cough. Is it time for the ers now? It seems we just keep passing it around unless it takes this long to get over. I would greatly appreciate any help on this stuffy problem.

Warm Welcomes. I appreciate your trust in HCM and assure you are on best portal on the globe for expert online medical services.
I have thoroughly reviewed health query you raised, and well realize all of those concerns. Being your physician, I will take care all of them today and will extend my expertise to solve the problems.

Seven to Ten days are enough to wait in such a situation. It is actually a viral infection of the respiratory system that is usually self limiting and starts getting better at its own in just 3-4days. Only conservative therapy is needed. But sometimes it is secondarily infected by bacteria and needs antibiotics for proper resolution and to avoid complications.

You all contracted it as a viral illness that is contagious and easily spreads through respiratory droplets and causes all family members in contact to contract the disease.

I recommend for you a visit of the Otorhinolaryngologist for thorough evaluation and management. If you are unable to get timely appointment, Yes---it is the time to go to the ER.

If I was your treating Physician I would have prescribed you with Azithromycin if not allergic to plus Acetaminophen, Fexofenadine by mouth.

Keep a warm mist vaporizer with vicks vapopads in it in your room for soothing respiration. Take a plenty of drinking water and proper rest is needed too. Exposure from weather extremes are not good for you.

Hope I addressed all the concerns you have. Let me know if you have further questions. I will be more than happy to clear any doubts. Please give your 'rating' (if agreed, Five Stars) to help me assist patients in a better way; and, please don't forget to click on 'Close The Discussion'.
