Is Contraceptive Pill Usage Harmful To Fetus Before First Missed Period?
DETAILS ARE GIVEN BELOW.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for writing to us.
XXXXXXX or any kind contraceptive pill is NOT harmful to fetus before 1st missed period or realization of unwanted pregnancy as fetal Organogenesis starts from 5th week onwards.
Many women continue to take birth control pills for 4 to 8 weeks following conception, without subsequent complications, since they are unaware that they are pregnant. However, you should STOP taking birth control pill if you want to continue this pregnancy and save the baby.
It will be HIGHLY RISK for growing fetus if you had continued contraceptive pill (YASMIN) following missed period or confirmation of pregnancy.
Common adverse effects are miscarriage, birth defect (like esophageal atresia), Virilization of female baby etc.
Here, I suggest to undergo one Trans Vaginal Ultrasound scan and proceed next level of investigations for fetal anomaly like NT scan, Triple Marker or Quad test, TIFFA scan etc. Kindly, consult with your GYNECOLOGIST regarding this.
Hope, it helps for your information. Kindly, close the discussion if you don't have any other query.
Wish your good health and take care yourself.
Regards,
Dr Soumen
