I have been having this for almost 3 week as it comes and goes. Sometimes its no to bad an its tolerable but sometimes I have to cough every time I breathe And this kind of started after I had an upper endoscopic (EGD) as I have that and a colonscopy every 5 years as they have found and removed polyp in colon twice being them both benign.
Anyway the EGD showed an hiatial hernia and alot of reflux that Yes caused a lot of heartburn.
I was prescribed Ranitiden 300mg and also had Omeprazol DR 20mg for a while and both of them controled my heartburn and reflux but. I'm taking these pills.
Since my coughing problems happen after, gastroenterology Dr. Is not aware of my coughing issue but I guess all he would do is refer me to a pulmonary Dr anyway.
So to answer your questions:
Symptoms are going on for approximately 3 week.
No heartburn since I started on the pills mentioned also about 3 weeks ago.
Never had problems breathing hence never had been diagnosed with asthma.
I have not had any test on this coughing/breathing problem so far.
Another symptoms is just that my chest hurts a bit on the occasions I cough a lot consecutively But I guess its normal due to the amount of coughing. When I'm coughing sporadically it does not hurt.
Only on the medication described above.
I hopes this helps you...help me as yesterday was one of the bad days but today I feel better.
If you are to recommend me going to a Dr for some test can you at least recommend something over the counter that could help while I get the appointment, cause it a weekend and I would have to wait several days to get that appointment plus I have spent so much recently that I was hoping to find a solution without going to the Dr or Emergency, as much possible.
Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Brief Answer:
Mediacations like albuterol would be helpful
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I would advise you to get a chest xray and a spirometry test done.
Continue taking omeprazole.
The cough you have could be due to spasm of the airways.
Medications like albuterol would be helpful.
But I would advise you to discuss with your doctor before taking any medication on your own.
