Is Decrease In Resting Heart Rate While On Non-penicillin Antibiotics Normal?
I have had cold like symptoms for 2.5 weeks, on non-penicillin antibiotics and some over the counter pain medication occasionally. The last two days my resting heart rate has gone from 109 to 90 bpm.
Is this a normal condition (resting heart rate) while sick?
it is the range that is important, normal hrt rate- 60 to 100
Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic
The normal heart rate is between 60 to 100.
The heart rate can increase during illness due to fever, the illness itself affecting the body's metabolism, side effect of medication, electrolyte changes that may occur.
There is no particular heart rate for illness because each person has a potentially different heart rate, the rate is considered normal if it is between 60 to 100, this means that the 90 would be in the normal heart rate range.
The heart rate of 109 would be considered high but as mentioned this can occur with illness.
If without illness, your heart rate is still high then the cause needs to be found.
Initial tests would be a complete blood count( to rule out anemia), thyroid function test (to check for hyperthyroidism) and an ECG.
I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
