default
Posted on Wed, 11 May 2016
Question: A week ago I suffered UTI and was given antibiotics and oxicodone, the drugs stopped my intestines impeding proper vowel movements, 2 days ago, Sunday I spent the day with severe pain with impacted feces. I took Linzess, stol softener, prunelax without emptying the intestines, I have been on clear liquids since Saturday night in the event I might need emergency intervention, I am waiting for a n appointment with the gastrointestinal MD, this risks is chronic and I have handled it many times before, but this time I am alone at home, and don't know if I should go to the ER risking exposure to all sorts of bacterial floating in hospitals, or wait for the appointments desk to set appointment. I had quimiotherapy last year

Brief Answer:
Oxycodone is the problem. Stop it!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this difficulty with peristalsis. I have reviewed your information fully and this difficulty is most likely caused by oxycodone as it s notorious in causing constipation. I will advise that you stop it and continue with stool softeners, increased fluids and fluids. Also, regular physical exercise would be very helpful as well. If these fail and there is severe pain or need to stool, at that time visit the hospital for feces disempaction. If there are no such symptoms at this time, I will say wait patiently until you see the MD on a regular appointment. Your symptoms are very much not suggestive of any possible fusion of intestines and the urinary tract. If this were the case, your symptoms would have been acute and very severe.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
