Is Drinking Beer Safe When On Clarithromycin And Amoxicillin?
Question: Is it okay top have a few beers while taking clarithromycin 500mg and amoxicillin 500mg? just wondering have a party to attend tonght and was wondering if it was okay to mix if in moderation. IM 30 years old

Hi,
There are no known interaction between alcohol and clarithromycin + amoxicillin. Therefore moderate drinking while on these drugs are acceptable. However I would prefer you not drink tonight due to two reasons:
1. I assume you are on this combination to treat H.pylori associated gastritis. And alcohol can aggravate gastritis / GERD complaints.
2. If the treatment isn't for H.pylori, this antibiotic combination + alcohol may flare up hyperacidity and stomach upset side effects of the drug in some people.
If you still want to drink, keep the drinks to very minimal amounts.
