Hi
Welcome to XXXXXXX

Excess hair growth is not associated wit hypothyroidism. With hypothyroidism there is rough and coarse hairs. The excess hair growth in females occurs in a condition called hirsutism. The hirsutism is closely associated with polycystic ovary disease. There is decrease in the levels of progesterone which responsible for the development of the secondary sex character like decreased body hairs, breast enlargement etc.

It is recommended to consult gynecologist for screening of ovaries and hormonal problems. For cosmetic purposes laser therapy can be tried.

Thank you, are there any other symptoms of hirsutism or polycystic ovary disease I should be watching out for? How will that be treated? Could I still have children?

The most common conditions are polycystic ovaries however there are other rare causes like it may be familial, it can be due to high levels of androgen, can be due to congenital adrenal hyperplasia, cushing syndrome or may be due to some drugs use like anabolic steroids, testosterone, danazol etc.

They are treated by a proper management which include weight loss in obese patients as it is one of the most common cause for PCOs and drug management which includes drugs like oral contraceptives to make cycles more regular however the cyst are multiple so cannot be removed.

Many females with such conditions have conceived while still others are struggling. The most common complication of this condition is miscarriages however with proper management, the complication can be avoided.
