Is Excessive Bowel Movement In A One Year Old Child Normal?
Question: My one year old has been pooping more than usual. It used to be one maybe two tines a day. The past 4 days it has been 5 times a day. All a good amount each time. It is yellow/baige pasty. He's been eating reg foods for a while now, nothing real different recently. Also, we have been on reg whole milk for a little over a month. There were no problems switching. He's playful and seems fine. A little fussy that I knock off as teething, he's also tired, which I figured a growth spurt. He still doesn't sleep through the night :( but for these past 3 nights he has woken up more than usual. About every 1-2 hours. I get just soothing him but the only thing that gets him back to sleep is more milk.
Brief Answer:
Bowel Movements
Detailed Answer:
Hello. I just read through your question.
It is not unusual in pediatrics for bowel movements patterns to change. These can happen with change in the diet, change in growth pattern, or for no apparent reason at all. The most important thing is his comfort. As long as he is reasonably comfortable during his bowel movements, there is little to be concerned about. it is likely that at some point, the bowel movement pattern will change again, perhaps back to what it was before.

Why is he waking up so much during the night? Can he be that hungry to want more milk?
Brief Answer:
Waking up
Detailed Answer:
There are typically 3 possible reasons for wake ups.
1. teething
2. illness
3. hunger (like you are speculating). if the answer is hunger, it usually means he is not getting enough during the day. i would try to feed him some more solid foods, especially in the evening meal. Hopefully this will prevent middle of the night wakes ups due to hunger.
