default
Posted on Tue, 7 Jul 2015
Question: I have been sick with ear/throat infections. I was put on Levaquin for 5 days and have one tab. left. My grandson has just been diagnosed with Hand, Foot, and Mouth disease and I was with him for a long time the day before he broke out with blisters. How susceptible am I to this infection and is it ok for me to take care of the baby?

Brief Answer:
Hand washing frequently is advised to prevent infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query at HCM.
I understand your concern and situation.

I am really sorry to learn about your grandson sickness. Yes your child is most likely to spread the disease during the first week of the illness. But the virus can stay in the stool for several months and may spread to others. All I can suggest you to prevent infection is thorough washing your hands frequently with soap and water or chlorhexidine wash.Don't let your child share toys or give kisses while he or she is infected. The child is small so not taking care is inhuman so take care of your child by taking precautions. Best of health to you and your grandson. Remember hand washing is the best way to prevent infection.

Hope I answered your query.
