Is Headache A Common Symptom Of Lyme Disease?
Question: My 4 year old Grandson is being treated with antibiotics for the possibility of Lyme Disease. He has been complaining of headaches even prior to the treatment. Is this a possible side effect of the Lyme Disease?
Brief Answer:
Headache is a common presentation of Lyme disease
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the query
Rash(Circular with bull'seye in middle),fever, headache, bodyache and joint pain all these are common presentation of Lyme disease.
The headache can be due to fever or infection of the brain(meningitis).
The symptoms should start improving after 4-5 days of oral antibiotic.
If the headache is severe, there is altered sensorium, abnormal movement or vomiting I would suggest you to consult near by emergency room as in case of meningitis Intravenous treatment is needed.
Paracetamol will help in relieving headache and fever both.
I hope this helps.
If you have any further query I will be glad to answer.
Regards
