Is Hip Resurfacing Recommended For The Younger Patient With Hip Arthritis?
Is it true that not many doctors want to work in a revision( 2nd replacement) once the initial one is worn and expired?
Hip resurfacing is done in younger patients.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
Hip resurfacing is usually recommended for younger patients who will be living longer with an artificial joint. Since resurfacing only replaces part of the joint and leaves more thigh bone intact, a later revision surgery, usually a total hip replacement, will be easier to perform.
The second hip replacement is a difficult and cumbersome procedure and may not give as good results as the first replacement. So many doctors do avoid such a surgery.
I hope this answers your query.
