Is Immunotherapy Effective When Having Malignant Mass On Frontal Cortex?
Question: A female friend of mine has just been diagnosed with a malignant mass on the frontal cortex. Scans which initially suggested metastasis to other organs have proven negative. While the surgeon intends to do surgery shortly for biopsy ( and presumably to remove the mass), he is also suggesting immunotherapy as an adjunct. Is there any evidence that this path could prove viable?
Do people survive cancers of " this nature"? Prognostically speaking, do you realistically see anything redeeming in such a situation? Any response that you provide will remain inaccessible to the pt. and her family.
Thank you

Brief Answer:
it is a difficult situation
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.
At this age, malignant mass in brain is usually a grade 4 glioblastoma. However, only the biopsy can prove this. These tumors are very aggressive and average survival is about a year.
Though I have not gone through the reports, we manage these tumors with surgery followed by radiation and oral chemotherapy. Immunotherapy with avastin is usually used in relapsed disease.
At least we can provide some quality time with this approach.
Hope this helps. I will be available for follow up.
