Brief Answer:
Possible

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Quite frequently, a bad urinary tract infection may cause a disturbance in digestion. Several patients actually throw up anything they take in at the time of an acute UTI. Things usually return to normal after the UTI settles. Now one way of beating this would be take a soft bland diet, avoiding anything spicy, and taking in plenty of fluids till the sense of abdomen fullness comes down. If required, you could try medicines like Pantoprazole and domperidone which if taken once a day, should help reduce flatulence considerably. If sense of distension does not come down, despite resolution of UTI, we might need to take more active measures.
Best wishes.

Brief Answer:
Looks like severe sepsis, will benefit from ICU care

Detailed Answer:
Hi again,
It looks like she has severe sepsis, and she probably will benefit from good IV antibiotics, and a Ryles tube aspiration to reduce abdomen pressure. She may need ICU care. She might need imaging lke CT scan. Hope you know some good physician who can take care of those issues asap.
Regards.

Brief Answer:
CT scan or MRI should be useful

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Sorry for the delay in replying. I wonder what info the CT scan came up with. An MRI scan will be useful to delineate the tract, if any, between bladder and rectum. Hopefully the sepsis is better, and the abdominal distension is less as well. I saw the picture you have uploaded, and I must admit, it did not look very good. You are welcome to let me know the progress.

Could this be a ruptured diverticula ..the pouch in the colon bursting...

Brief Answer:
Yes, a ruptured diverticulum is a possibility

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Hope your mother is doing well now with resolution of sepsis. In fact, the cause of sepsis might be a ruptured diverticulum, and depending on where it has ruptured symptoms could develop. For example, if it has ruptured into the tissues around the rectum, a pelvic abscess could result. If it has ruptured into the bladder, an abnormal communication between bladder and rectum might form. Eventually, this becomes a common source of sepsis in elderly.
