Is Inhaling Spray Paint Fumes During Pregnancy A Cause For Concern?
Question: My wife who is 30 weeks pregnant was in the next room while I spray painted. I had my door closed and blocked with a window open and we had her door closed, window open and the fan going. I had been spraying for a little over an hour. It wasn't until I came out of the room that she started smelling fumes and we are both concerned now since I thought we had adequate ventilation. Please advise on if our baby will be ok with the exposure.
Brief Answer:
nothing to worry
Detailed Answer:
Hello Sir, thanks for trusting health care magic.
There is no direct harm to the mother and baby as these fumes are not toxic.
The only problem these fumes can cause is sneezing and allergic cold in some patients who are sensitive to them.
In case she hasn't been feeling these symptoms there is nothing to worry about it and you can relax.
Take care

Ok. Ill let her know. As for me what should i do about my exposure? I wasnt thinking and i did breath in particles and wasnt wearing a mask, i did tuck my head in my shirt but while i was waiting for a response im now im coughing up some paint particles in my saliva. Should i go to ER immediatly?
Brief Answer:
allergic component present
Detailed Answer:
Try to wear mask next time as it seems as if you are a little allergic to those fumes.
Also take tablet cetrizine 10 mg and see the relief.
In case you feel relieved then take this tablet twice a day for 3-5 days (till you have symptoms).
But in case there isn't any relief then visit ER for evaluation.

I coughed to clear my throat and spit up saliva and paint. Its not an allergy, when i cleard my throat pant sentamint came up with it and now when i force myself to cough and spit, more paint bits come up. I font have any tigtness in chest or shortness of breath but im highly concerned if its my sinus draining the residual paint to try and have kt exit my bidy or do i have paint in my throught and settling in my lungs
Brief Answer:
you can cough that out
Detailed Answer:
Yes you are right that these are lying in your wind pipe and may also settle down in lungs also but they will be cleared by the macrophages (immunity providing cells in body).
You can cough them up the moment they cause you irritation and also take cetrizine as advised which will help you to tide over the irritation and allergic reaction (if any).
But the paints these days are usually ecofriendly so won't cause much if a trouble to you with a single episode of painting.
All the best.
