Is Intensive Mountain Biking Trip Safe During Pregnancy?

default
Posted on Thu, 11 Sep 2014
Question: I recently found out I'm pregnant. My husband and I have planned to go on a intensive mountain biking trip in Europe. Big mountains, steep and rough descents, etc. There's definitely an elevated risk of falling, especially in that type of terrain. Should we cancel the trip as a precaution since I'm now pregnant?

Brief Answer:
intensive biking not recommended

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,

I completely understand the issue.

During pregnancy it is not recommended to practice intensive exercise. Also fall and trauma increases the risk of abortion, preterm labor pains and may cause heavy bleeding. So this poses a risk. Also I am not sure if emergency medical facilities would be available at such places if they are needed.

So it is better to post pone the trip for a later date if possible.

Wish you a safe pregnancy.

Take care.
Hope this satisfies your query.
