default
Posted on Mon, 27 Jul 2015
Question: I'm going to have a D&C this coming Wednesday. I just read prep document. I took one dosage of aspirin this Wednesday am I still good for the surgery also. I didn't realize I had to stop supplements. I take a multivitamin every day. If I stop now am okay for surgery. I rather get this over and done and rather not postpone it. Thoughts.

Brief Answer:
main concern in the vitamin e and risk of bleeding

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Normally multivitamins are discontinued at least 7 to 14 days prior to surgery.

This is to reduce the potential risk bleeding particularly with vitamin E, fish oil supplements along with other herbal ingredients (ginko, ginseng).

This is the main concern.

Your procedure is due in 5 days which is just under the 7 days, if you have no history of any bleeding disorders you may still be in the clear and surgery may still be allowed but you need to speak to your doctor.

He or she would need to be aware of the supplements to make a informed decision as to whether it would be ok for you.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
