Is It Normal To Experience Spotting Post Polyp Removal?

default
Posted on Mon, 19 Jan 2015
Question: Good Afternoon Doctor,
How are you? I hope you remember me. I was in touch with you last month as I underwent a D&C. I was also previously diagnosed also with Serous Borderline Ovarian tumor.

As I had detailed to you in my previous message doctor, the path report for the D&C came back as a polyp and fibroid. The report was uploaded for your reference.

In my last email to you, I had detailed my menstrual diary. Please kindly see below the latest additions. I am concerned of the spotting that is still going on after my this month's period. Please see below details.

Kindly let me know your opinion doctor and / or if I should go to the doctor again.

Thanking you in advance,
XXXXXX

Brief Answer:
WAIT FOR 3-5 DAYS

Detailed Answer:
Hello again.
Good to hear from you.
I have reviewed your menstrual record.
As I mentioned earlier, some spotting in the first cycle after polyp / fibroid removal is to be expected.
You just had your period , and then had a few days of spotting.
So far so good.
If the spotting continues over the next few days, then you need further more detailed evaluation.
The polyp might not have been completely removed or might have recurred.
ALso, what was the report of the CT scan - why was it carried out ?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Take care.

Dear Doctor,

The CT scan was part of my follow-ups for the borderline ovarian tumor that I was diagnosed of before.

For how many more days should I watch out for the spotting before going in for further evaluation again. My period ended on 15th Dec. and so I have already spotted for 7 days now.

Could you advice doctor what sort of further evaluation I can expect?Dear Doctor, could you advise for how many more days I should wait.
Also what sort of further evaluation I can expect.

Thank you,

Brief Answer:
WAIT FOR YOUR NEXT PERIOD.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again.
Further evaluation would be in the form of a pelvic ultrasound scan and a repeat hysteroscopy if so indicated.
You should wait for one more cycle.
Put up with any sort of spotting that you might have this month, and if it persists after your next period too, you need to consult your doctor again.
I hope hormonal assessments have been carried out - FSH, LH, TSH, Prolactin at the very least.
Take care.

Brief Answer:
GET THEM DONE IF SPOTTING PERSISTS.

Detailed Answer:
If you continue to spot after your next period too, then you need to have the other hormonal tests done too.
They are best done on day 2 of your cycle.
Take care.

Brief Answer:
TAKE CARE.

Detailed Answer:
I do hope so too, I can understand how distressing it can get.
Are you overweight by any chance ?
WHat is your height and weight ?
Try and minimize the following situations - they might exacerbate the spotting - anxiety, stress, emotional turbulence, unaccustomed exercise, weight fluctuations, smoking, drinking, late nights, erratic eating , travelling frequently etc.
Do keep me posted.
Take care.

Dear Doctor,
I am 156 cm in height and 60 kg. in weight. I think it is considered as slightly over weight.
I am quite anxious and emotionally disturbed due to my health. Otherwise, I do not have any other issues with regards to exercise, weight fluctuations, etc.

I don't smoke, nor drink, nor have late nights or nor do I travel often.

Unfortunately, health problems are simply recurring to me.

Best regards,

Brief Answer:
NOTHING TO WORRY

Detailed Answer:
Hi again.
Yes, losing a few kgs will help, but I can see nothing ominous or disturbing in the personal details.
Relax, this can happen at times , am sure it will stabilize in a month of two.
Take care.
