Is It Normal To Have Delayed Periods After Taking Plan B?

default
Posted on Mon, 6 Jul 2015
Question: Took plan b almost three weeks ago and this is the time I should be getting my period. I am feeling is there around the corner, some times mild cramps. When I took the pill I had protected sex but took it just in case. My periods are usually not regular. Is it my period that is almost coming? and how delayed it can be?.........I am taking spironolactone and metmorfin because I have a hormonal imbalance and high testosterone levels. Maybe that added with the plan b messed my cycle more?

Sorry, is metformin that I am taking...

Brief Answer:
Don’t be scared! your irregular cycle and the plan B are responsible!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this delayed menses. With a plan B after protected sex, there are no possible chances that you could be pregnant. Plan B is know to distort regular cycles. Given the fact that you already have an irregular cycle due to hormonal changes(probably Polycystic ovarian disease), I believe these are the possible causes of your delayed periods. Be calm and patiently wait for the menses. if they fail to show in the next 2weeks, then I will want to review further to seed if there are any other possible causes that we are missing out on.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.

Brief Answer:
This is true!

Detailed Answer:
HI,

During menstruation there are real fluctuations and that’s why some women would even experience mood changes. This is normal and usually get over with the periods. Staying healthy through regular exercises, eating much vegetables and fruits, increase fluids intake and above all a positive mindset are very capital in helping you minimize these changes and move on.

Keep me updated with your progress. Until then, stay well.

I have some minor milky discharges and is in the normal amounts I usually get... I think even if it will be late, that is a good sign the period is on its way? I had the clear ovulation discharge already, now is white in normal amounts... Thanks for the clarifications!

Also I am experiencing some nausea but that is just now I haven't had that before... maybe is all part of the waiting for the period and these crazy hormones? But no other obvious symptom of pregnancy like fatigue, sore breast, etc... just that now

BE relaxed, pregnancy is very unlikely. Patience is all you need now!

Thanks for the follow up questions and precision. There are very little chances of you getting pregnant. I will recommend that you calm down and relax. All would get to normal. What we need is time and that would soon be apparent to you. All these symptoms that you have reported are non specific and should not scare you.

After these few days of just cramps every now and then I started bleeding todays and it feels like a period but is still minimal like a first day would... I want to make sure is not implantation bleeding because it has been more than 3 weeks since I had sex and still no other symptom. Just to put my mind at easy, is it a sign of a period finally? Even though it can be lighter? I will see for the next days how it progresses.

Brief Answer:
Most likely a sign of periods!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

This is not implantation bleed. Implantation bleed would not occur after three weeks as implantation generally happens by the 7th day after intercourse. Be relaxed and treat this as menses.

I wish you well.
