Is It Normal To Have Pain On Injured Area On Application Of Silverex?
Question: My son suffered a serious burn injury on abdomen (not dermis) wide area (this happed on 08 FEB at 02:00pm), this is cleaned by NS, dressed with SILVEREX onitment & Gelonet surgical gauge. Antibiotic prescribed is Lincef & another tablet Chymoral Forte. After cleaning of wound, when Silverex is applied, the burning sensation is so high, it is extremely difficult to hold and he is under pain for 10 min. Is it usual or can you please suggest an alternate which is effective but less painful than using SILVEREX. Please help.

Brief Answer:
May switch over to either fusidic acid ointment or mupirocin ointment
Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us at healthcaremagic
I have gone through your query and I have understood it.
Burning and painful sensation from topical silver suphadiazine are not uncommon but only temporary.
You may switch him over to either topical 2% fusidic acid ointment Or topical 2% mupirocin ointment, twice daily.
These are broad spectrum topical antibacterials and also suitable for preventing secondary bacterial infection of a burn wound.
You may inquire if one of these is available Over the counter from a local pharmacy Or else you may talk to your doctor for a prescription of one of these.
